Mary and Martha

Luke 10:38  Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 10:39  And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 10:40  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 10:41  And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 10:42  But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

1 John 2:16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 2:17  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Jesus said, The light of the body is the eye. The eye is directly linked to our heart. We can be drawn by what we see or repelled by it. We buy many things we don't really need because we see them and want them. Why are certain things placed in stores where they can be easily seen? So we will buy them on impulse! We are touched by what we see, a baby, a small dog or other cute animal. But there is the danger of seeing and wanting what is evil and not good for us. In Martha's case, she was seeing with her eyes and stopped there. How am I going to feed these 13 men who have come to visit? Do we even have dinner ware for so many? Where is my sister Mary?

Mary saw with her eyes, but listened with her ears as well, and no doubt thought like the guards who were sent to arrest Jesus once, Never man spake like this man! The ears are more connected to the mind and she thought on what she heard and all the other cares vanished from her. Jesus called it; that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. When you read you use your eyes, but that voice in your head speaks to your mind just as if you were hearing the words. That is why reading is so important and hearing the Word of God.

Too Good to be True?

Too Good to be True?

Psalms 4:1  To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. 4:2  O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing (untruth)? Selah. 4:3  But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. 4:4  Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. 4:5  Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. 4:6  There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 4:7  Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. 4:8  I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

We hear it all the time, If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't true. We see offers in magazines, papers and Internet that just sound too good to be true. As David points out, There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Evil seems to be the norm, the rip-off is coming, the big layoff, the guy (or gal) you had faith in is hauled off to jail, the role model falls from grace, Who will show us any good?

What is good anyway? All the political hacks say they know what is good, we need to be more progressive, give away more and more stuff to more and more people, open the doors wider to every bent of character, that will lift us to a new age of enlightenment, but then we see riots and lawlessness because we are not handing out stuff fast enough for some. How about we pull back, seal our borders, quit handing out so much stuff? That will fix things! Then we see greed taking over. One man put it this way, "Men are swine!" It seems that half of the world wants to kill the other half. There be many that say, Who will shew us any good?

You have heard that the word, gospel, means "good news" The downfall of many is that they think it is also "Too good to be true", but as I have found out for myself, the greatest Good News on Earth is true, we don't deserve it, we have not earned it, we can't pay for it, but God gives it!

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 1:2  The same was in the beginning with God. 1:3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 1:4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 1:5  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 1:6  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 1:7  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 1:8  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 1:9  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 1:10  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 1:11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 1:13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 1:15  John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 1:16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 1:17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

John 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 3:15  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 3:18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 3:19  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 3:20  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 3:21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

David, our psalmist, put it this way, Psalms 51:5  Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 51:6  Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. 51:7  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 51:8  Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 51:9  Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 51:11  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 51:12  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 51:13  Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. 51:14  Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. 51:15  O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. 51:16  For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 51:17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Jesus prays in the book of John 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 17:18  As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 17:19  And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 17:20  Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 17:21  That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 17:22  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

So don't fall short of the Greatest Good News you will ever hear in your life, ask God to save you through the Lord Jesus Christ if you have not yet done so. You may think it is too good, yes, more than we deserve, but it is, none the less, true as true can be. Jesus said also in John 6:37  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Get real with God and He will get real and wonderful with you.
